Wine Tradition

About us

Vallemayor is a family-owned winery located in Fuenmayor, within the geographical area of La Rioja Alta. Our family has been dedicated to winemaking since the 19th century, but it was in 1984 when Luis Pérez Foncea, father of the current owners, decided to open the new facilities and began bottling his own brands.

Wine Tradition

At Vallemayor, we produce only high-quality wines from our 70 hectares of own vineyards and another 60 hectares of controlled vineyards in the area. Our main effort is the balanced combination of traditional knowledge and the most modern technology to achieve a line of wines that exemplifies the truest expression of our land. We are protected by the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Ours facilities

The production hall has a capacity for winemaking of 2,000,000 kg of grapes in stainless steel tanks.

The storage warehouse has an approximate capacity of 700,000 litres and is where the processes of clarification, homogenization, physical-tartaric stabilization and blends are carried out, also in stainless steel tanks.

The ageing area houses 3,000 Bordeaux barrels, each with a capacity of 225 litres. 1,500 are crafted from American limousine oak. The remaining 1,500 are oak from the forests of central France, with split staves and open pores. All barrels are replaced on average every 4/5 years.

The bottle rack area can accommodate 500,000 bottles and is where, with the necessary maturation and rest, we round off our wines and give them the unique bouquet that the wines from Fuenmayor have.

Bodegas Luis Pérez Foncea and Sons

In 1984, Luis Pérez Foncea decided to transform the old distillery in Fuenmayor into a modern and functional winery for the production, aging, and bottling of Rioja wines. He incorporated the latest technology into his knowledge and began the production of wines that expressed his unique personality. This initial project was named Bodegas Luis Pérez Foncea and Sons, and with the Tondeluna brand, supported by 35 hectares of excellent vineyards, the family’s journey in the bottled wine trade began.

Bodegas Vallemayor

Soon, the wine market prompted the owner to expand and introduce some changes. In September 1996, the winery transformed into a Limited Company, and the sons of Luis Pérez Foncea definitively joined the business. Thus, Bodegas Vallemayor S.L. was born, which today boasts 70 hectares of its own vineyard.
